Social group (Gender) & its issues.

In my last post, I mentioned a few major social groups that are represented in media studies. There are some social issues linked with them which are portrayed in media. 

Gender: It refers to whether the characters are male or female. It also includes transgender and transvestite characters. 

There are many stereotypes seen in television. 

• Male are usually portrayed as strong, aggressive, tall or dominant over women whereas women are shown girly, weak, dependant on a man, pure or innocent.
• Gay men are also shown girly, interested in fashion, weak white lesbian women are portrayed hating men, dressing masculine and doing masculine jobs.
