Research Into Camera Techniques

 We studied the following camera shot sizes:

  1. EWS/XWS: Extreme Wide Shot (city view/establishing shot)
  2. VWS: Very Wide Shot (street view/establishing location & time)
  3. WS, LS, FS: Wide Shot, Long Shot & Full Shot (full character/head to toe)
  4. MLS: Mid Long Shot (head to knees)
  5. MS: Mid Shot (head to waist)
  6. MCU: Mid Close Up Shot
  7. CU: Close Up Shot (head to shoulders)
  8. BCU: Big Close Up (forehead to chin)
  9. XCU: Extreme Close Up (eyes/focus)
Camera movements: Most used camera movements include the following:
  • Tilt up & down on an axis (tripod)
  • Pan: Right/left on an axis (tripod)
  • Pan/tilt: Mix of both pan & tilt
  • Whip pan: First pan movement
  • Track movement: right/left/in/out
  • Crab shot: (feet level)
  • Dolly in/out
  • Crane/Jib/Pedestal (Camera moves up & down)
